Iranian authorities have seized 6,500 copies of the Bible in northwest Iran, according to a report by the Mohabat News.
A government spokesman, Dr. Majid Abhari, advisor to the social issues committee of the parliament in Iran, said “These missionaries with reliance on huge money and propaganda are trying to deviate our youth.”
“With regard to the activities of these Christian missionaries to deceive people, especially youngsters, they have begun a huge campaign by spending huge sums and false propaganda for deviating the public,” Abhari added.
Abhari did not present any details about the seizure, but he said, “These books were made with the best paper in the world in pocket size. The important point in this issue that should be considered by intelligence, judicial and religious agencies is that all religions are strengthening their power to confront Islam, otherwise what does this huge number of Bibles mean?”
In November of 2010, police officers and revolutionary guards seized 300 bibles from a bus after an inspection and burned them in the village of Darishk,” according to Mohabat News.
These acts seem to reflect an organized campaign by agencies in Iran’s government that view anti-Christian propaganda at the top of their agenda. It also reveals major concerns among Iranian officials about conversions to Christianity. –Michael Ireland, ASSIST News
Interesting. I feel that way about Shari Law in the USA
I find it interesting that they summarily burned those Bibles, but if another country found a box of Korans and burned them, or (like the pastor in FL who made the news) talked about burning them, there would be state-organized riots in Muslims countries with people burning American flags and burning political figureheads in effigy. It seems that they are not willing to give the respect that they demand (not even earn) from others. To me that is the ultimate description of ignorance and bigotry.
Well, then again, the Muslims give so much more respect, voluntary respect, to their god Allah, than we would ever give to God. We use the name God for a cuss word for crying out loud! If the Muslims, however, were ever caught swearing in Allah’s name they could be punished by death. Maybe we should use the example of all the so-called “heathen” people’s respect for their god and put it to use. Maybe then we could start condemning them for showing almost as little respect for our God as we show anyway. It’s something to think about. 🙂
