O for a thousand tongues to sing

My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast, I will sing, yes, I will sing praises. Awake my glory, awake harp and lyre. I will awaken the dawn.  Psalm 57:7-8

When my wife Nikki plays the piano, my heart sings for joy. Friday night, waiting for some worship friends to arrive at our home, she started playing. It was so beautiful people walking down our street stopped to listen. I could see the question on their faces. What kind of music am I hearing? Haven’t quite heard anything like it. It was the melodies of heaven. Songs of the Spirit. The glorious music of God’s kingdom.

When David was a lad, he sat near his father’s sheep, in the fields of Bethlehem, looking up in wonder at the expanse of the night skies, and began strumming his harp. These would become the Ancient Psalms we now so treasure and how I wish I could hear the music David created. The rhythm of his worship. Songs that made angels rejoice. I’ve driven by the fields of Bethlehem on a trip to Israel and the memory never fades. This was where David’s heart would come alive.

When you truly worship the Lord, you give Him your all.  For it’s there, in worship, that you create a personal throne where God is pleased to dwell. The Lordship of Christ springs forth in living worship and because Jesus is Lord in your life, you freely worship Him. You recognize His authority. You magnify, exalt and bless Him, surrendering all your life and everything therein to the Lover of your Soul. Real worship. It is gloriously transforming.

Others, like David have written words so incredibly beautiful you can hardly utter them…

O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer’s praise.

The glories of my God and King, the triumphs of His grace

Give praise to our God, all you His bond-servants

All you who fear Him the small and the great

Hallelujah! For the Lord our God reigns

All glory to Him, the Almighty Creator

Eternal God. A-men

The Lord of this day, is of great excellency

Of beauty and power and of great majesty

The King shall reign as Lord supreme

Hallelujah, Hallelujah, The King shall reign again.

The day dawns with thick clouds

The sky is impaled by rays of light

The living Word trumpets forth

A white horse, a conquering Lord

Eden’s delights burst into flame

The line is drawn, thunder breaks

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.

A-men and A-men
