Bible sales are skyrocketing, with a few notable celebrities either buying their first bible or announcing that they are converting to Christianity.
“People are coming to faith because they’re seeing how evil the world is,” comments YouTuber Ruslan.
Contrary to other book sales which remain flat, Bibles are flying off shelves – up 22% through the end of October, according to Circana BookScan, The Wall Street Journal reports.
“People are experiencing anxiety themselves, or they’re worried for their children and grandchildren,” says Jeff Crosby, of Evangelical Christian Publishers Association. “It’s related to artificial intelligence, election cycles and all of that feeds a desire for assurance, that we’re going to be OK.”
The Bible boom flies in the face of a seemingly contrary statistic: 28% of adults in the US now religiously unaffiliated.
In 2019, 9.7 million Bibles were sold. By October of 2024, 13.7 million copies of the Good Book were being picked up by consumers – and most of them were first time buyers.
These statistics don’t even contemplate people who download the Bible. The Bible App by YouVersion is one of the most popular Bible apps available, with over 450 million installations across various devices including phones, tablets, and computers, AI reports.
The year 2024 saw some celebrity conversions to Christianity, and their turn to Christ piqued the curiosity of fans.
For example, “Love Island USA” reality TV star Cely Vazquez bought her first Bible.
Flamboyant UK comedian Russell Brand also converted to Christianity in 2024.
“People have long needed a place to find refuge. They have discovered that everything else won’t work, and they have begun to see that Jesus is the only true solution to their problems,” he says.
At the “Heaven and Earth” Christian book store in Virginia Beach — one of the last Christian bookstores in the area — bookstore sales have quadrupled in the last four years alone, according to CBN.
