As a man who always held a strong belief in God, Dan Bongino never could have predicted the experience that would deepen his faith in an unexpected and emotional way.
During his radio show in March, Bongino shared the heartbreaking news of his mother’s sudden death. “My mom died last night — unexpected,” he said. “She fell down a flight of stairs. And I found out earlier this morning.”
Bongino described the sequence of events with visible emotion. He received the news of his mother’s passing at around 4:43 a.m. But an hour before, something unusual and inexplicable had happened, an event that left him wide awake and profoundly shaken.
“For those of you who don’t believe in God, I’m not here to judge you,” Bongino said. “But I want to tell you something. I want to tell you in advance, I’m not crazy, OK?”
At around 3 a.m., the very time he later learned his mother had died, Bongino experienced something extraordinary.
“At 3 a.m. in the morning, someone grabbed me,” he recounted. “Like hugged me — like a mom.”
This wasn’t a dream. Bongino was wide awake, a common occurrence due to his struggles with sleep. He had just returned to bed after getting some water when God saw fit to touch him in an unexpected way.
“It was real,” Bongino insisted. “I’m telling you, it was real. I actually jumped up. I know it sounds crazy, but I was looking for my gun. And I started looking around the house.”
After ensuring no one was in his home, Bongino found himself enveloped by a sense of peace and comfort, something he hadn’t expected amidst the initial shock and fear. This experience pointed him toward a deeper understanding and belief in God.
“I’m telling you, if you don’t believe in God and the afterlife, I would after last night,” Bongino shared. “You’re free to believe whatever you want, obviously. …I’ve never believed more in the power of Jesus.”
Bongino’s account is a powerful testament to the comfort and assurance that God can provide in the face of personal loss. It shows the mysterious ways in which spiritual experiences can offer solace and guide believers toward a deeper connection with their faith, especially during times of sorrow and loss.
