Phyu Lin

Phyu Lin works for a travel agency in Yangon, the capital of Myanmar, and leads a busy and productive life.

But several years ago she got into trouble financially and racked up a mountain of debt. She owed one woman $20,000. That woman happened to be a Christian and sent Phyu Lin a Bible, but she also started a lawsuit to recover the money owed.

Distressed by the lawsuit and her money woes, Lin fled to Malaysia.

“I was so confused,” Lin recalls. “I suffered depression for three years. Every day I thought about how I could kill myself. Every day I cried.”

Out of desperation one morning she picked up the Bible the woman gave her and began to read. At first, she was angry with God because He killed people in the Old Testament.

But as she continued to read she began to appreciate the fullness of God’s character, the fact that his holiness is in perfect balance with his grace, mercy, and loving kindness.

Then this verse pierced her heart: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

After reading that verse, she surrendered to Jesus as her Lord and Savior and found God’s peace.

Lin attended school in Malaysia and slowly put her life together. She took business courses and also finished Bible School.

As she grew in her faith, she decided she wanted to return to Myanmar. She prayed that God would help her sell her car and other possessions so she could get enough money to return to her country.

“People started coming to me and telling me ‘I want to buy your car.’ I didn’t advertise. I don’t know how they knew, only God knows.”

“God gave me a miracle so I went back to my country.

With $3000 she raised from her sales, Lin returned to Myanmar. She began to pray every day for direction in her life, and one morning she felt God tell her to go to the woman she owed the $20,000.

Immediately, without even brushing her teeth, she went to the woman’s home.

“I went to the house that sued me and I pressed the bell. Why am I standing in front of this house? she thought. Is there something wrong with me?

When the woman opened the door and saw Lin she was so shocked she began to cry.

Oh, no, today I am going to die, Lin thought.

Then the woman did something totally unexpected. She dropped to her knees, reached out to hold Lin’s hand, and began thanking God over and over.

The woman had been praying to God, telling Him she didn’t care about the money anymore or the lawsuit, she only wanted Lin to return.

“I just wanted you back and God listened to me!” the woman exclaimed.

The next day the woman closed the bankruptcy case. “She ended it and now we are best friends,” Lin says. “When I go preaching everywhere she follows me.

“God changed her heart…I thank God for that situation.”
