Brother Stephen facilitates a three-month discipleship training program in Myanmar, launched with the help of Global Disciples.

One day he was shocked when the most unlikely person arrived and expressed interest in the Christ-centered training – a Buddhist monk.

“He is a very wonderful man to the people of Myanmar,” Brother Stephen says. “He tried to come in my training.”

Surprisingly, before the monk arrived, he tried reading the Bible for himself, but had trouble discerning its meaning.

“I know this Bible is only for Christians,” the monk told Brother Stephen. “But I read it, and I don’t understand,” he said.

“Yes, if you are not a spiritual man you can not understand this. This is the Word of God. God spoke into it. You must be born again and you must receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. Then you will understand it,” Brother Stephen explained.

“Yes…I want to understand it. I want to know more about the Bible and Jesus Christ.”

The monk agreed to join the discipleship training. After a time of further instruction in God’s Word the monk’s heart began to open, but he still wrestled with many questions.

He came to Brother Stephen once again and expressed his apprehensions.

“Your god is not the true God,” Brother Stephen said boldly. “Jesus said, ‘I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No man comes to the Father except through me.’ You must repent and receive Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. Then you will understand and receive riches from your Heavenly Father.”

God opened the monk’s heart to believe. “He received Jesus Christ as His Lord and Savior. He invited me to put my hand on his head and I prayed for him to receive Jesus.”

The monk was filled with emotion after their prayer together. “After this, I will no longer follow Buddhism. I will no longer worship idols,” he said.

“He became a man of God,” Brother Stephen says, but the monk also paid a price for following Jesus.

He was forced to run away from the temple due to threats he received after his conversion. Pray that God will guard and protect him in his journey and help him to grow into a mighty man of faith.
