Dr. Gerry Landry, M.D.

As a staff physician at the University of Texas Health Center he was well acquainted with the symptoms of a heart attack. But this time, the M.D. wasn’t examining someone else – he was grappling with troubling signs of his own.

At home, Dr. Gerry Landry, 55, felt overwhelming fatigue and crushing pain in his chest for more than an hour.

“Denise! This is serious! Please pray!” he called out to his wife.

His wife began to pray after she called an ambulance. She also called Christian friends to pray. “We committed the situation to Almighty God and asked Him to heal me,” he says.

In spite of the excruciating pain, a wave of peace washed over the doctor and his wife after they prayed, a peace that defies understanding. (Phil. 4:7)

“All I remember during the ride to the hospital was calling out the name of Jesus, over and over again,” the doctor recalled.

A few years earlier, praying for God’s help would have been last on his to-do list. He was a nominal Christian, devoted to his church, but praying for his patients was not part of his life.

But that changed one day. “I witnessed a young couple praying for a patient of mine, I actually felt God’s presence in the room and was strangely moved. They prayed as though God was their closest friend. I envied them. It started me on a journey, a search for a true, deep, personal relationship with God,” he said.

“Before long, I met Christians who taught and prayed for me to receive the Holy Spirit. After that, Jesus became real to me, and the words of the Bible suddenly came to life.”

Dr. Landry entered the same Emergency Room where he had treated hundreds of patients. The doctor in charge showed him his EKG: His inferior coronary artery was completely knocked out.

“The cold clamminess of my hands warned me of collapsing veins,” he noted. “Yet, the sweet presence of Jesus continued to enfold me with His peace.

But as his wife prayed quietly by his side, his heart suddenly stopped beating. “I became acutely aware of my spirit separating from my body and I died – pronounced ‘clinically dead’ at 4:13pm.”

Immediately he found himself transported to heaven — a place of dazzling beauty!

“A multitude of radiantly beautiful people surrounded me. In spite of the crowd, I looked around and actually recognized some of my late relatives, as well as some historical figures who had preceded me a long time ago.   We were in the Eternal Now, without past or future and I was perfectly at ease, full of joy.

He felt like he belonged there and it was more real than being on earth.

Somehow, he spoke telepathically to the people around him. “Who are you? What are you doing here?”

“We are those who went on before you, and we welcome you here.”

He soon was overcome by their rapturous adoration of God and was touched by their inexpressible joy, welcoming him into the heavenly realm.

Suddenly, a shaft of light pierced the crowd. In the center of the light, a vision of Jesus appeared to him, alive on the cross of Calvary, with the nails through His hands and feet and the wound in His side. His face was bloody from the crown of thorns.

This perplexed him, because he knew positively that Jesus rose from the dead, ascended to heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God (Hebrews 12:2)

With eyes full of love and compassion, Jesus looked at him and said, “Gerry, My peace be with you.”

Dr. Landry was overwhelmed by the thought that out of the billions God created, He still knew him by name!

“In that moment, for the first time, I understood the essence, the completeness, the fullness of the love of God!” he said.

Then the Lord impressed on his heart, Gerry, you are healed. You will have no more pain, no anxiety, no shame, no guilt. I want you to go back. You’ll be home from the hospital in one week. I want you to tell your family, your friends, your fellowships, everyone I will put you in contact with, about My love.

Then Jesus instructed him to study the Gospel of John, the first two letters of John and all of Revelation.

John is My friend. He knows all about My love, He said.

Dr. Landry did not want to leave His presence. “But even as I protested that I did not want to go back to earth, I sensed my spirit return to my body.” His heart had stopped beating a total of four minutes.

According to the attending doctors, Dr. Landry remained in ICU, and during the next 10 hours drifted in and out of a coma. “At times, I was aware of other people, but was unable to respond, except for one time when Denise came in. I awoke and wept when I told her I had seen the Lord Jesus face to face,” he recounted.

He finally woke up completely from the coma at 3 am. At that same moment, a man from Dr. Landry’s prayer group was awakened and God impressed on him: He (Gerry) shall live and not die, for I shall raise him up to tell many about My love.”

“Exactly as Jesus told me, one week later I was home and, to the amazement of my physicians, completely healed. Soon after this, I received a letter from a Christian brother halfway around the world – an Arab we had met in Israel. He had had a vision of me appearing pale and sickly. At the precise time I was rushed to the ER, he prayed for me, over 7,000 miles away!”

Five weeks later, Dr. Landry resumed his work as an anesthesiologist at the University of Texas Health Center in Tyler. “There, I shared Jesus’ love with many critically ill patients and their families,” he said.

“Also, just as He promised and because I was a medical doctor, God opened doors to me in many foreign countries to share my testimony of heaven and to speak with medical colleagues about the importance of caring for the whole person and sharing God’s love.

“Under God’s guidance, I traveled to many countries in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, Canada, even China and other so-called restricted countries.

“I thank God that He allowed me the privilege of seeing first-hand the reality of John 11:25-26 where Jesus says: “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies and whosoever lives and believes in Me will never die.”

Twenty-three years after his heart attack and near death experience on March 24, 1979, Dr. Gerry Landry went back to heaven after he suffered a stroke. This time he stayed…

  1. Hallelujah! Friends, I know Dr Landry very well having seen him in Switzerland when he visited to testify of his visit to heaven. I was still a student but a born-again believer baptized in and filled with the Holy Spirit. I found him thrilling and had no doubt in my mind that Jesus is alive indeed, there are people in heaven etc. Some people did not really believe what he said. I remember one particular man ( a racist for sure) asking him whether there were black people in heaven. Dr. Landry simply answered that in heaven neither black nor white mattered there. I’m glad that Jesus has kept His Word to the honorable doctor and has taken him to glory at last. I feel a great joy in my heart as I write this. Today, people are going to heaven every day and returning with a mission to warn both believing Christians and doubters about life after death, the existence of Satan and hell. I say without mincing words, to both Christians and non-Christians: You must truly accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior and be born again. Do everything you can to serve God and worship Him. Unbelievers, submit and bow before a loving God, before it’s too late. Time is running out. Jesus will be here soon!
    God bless you.

      • Not everything that is in Heaven is written about in our Bible. It is also a place where time exists not, for it is an eternal place where all past, present, and future abide. Jesus showed to this man a past picture of His Death on the Cross (a ransom for this man’s soul). Obviously this man needed to behold this past event. Every individual created has his/her own relationship with their Beloved, and each of us needs to understand that not every message is for every soul. The refreshenings and Holy Spirit revelations to our souls are unique. God is not restricted by any boundaries whatsoever. All Scripture is given for our edification, teaching, understanding, but not all edification, teaching, understanding, especially of Eternal Things, is contained in our Bible. All Scripture contained in our Bible is Holy Spirit inspired and speaks to us not only in groups (the Church Body) but to every individual whenever he or she goes with humbled heart to the Scripture. Have you ever noticed that you can read a certain Scripture the same way for years, and then one day, the eyes of your heart are enlightened and you read the same verse in an entirely new and living way? We know so very little here on earth compared to what The Lord has planned for them who love and obey Him, both in regards to our heavenly experience and also when we return, with Our Lord, to earth, in new uncorrupted bodies .

  2. I have posted this article to Facebook and pray that people will take the time to read the experience of Dr. Landry and be encourage to engage in a relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus!!

  3. Hearing these over loving and true words so offen, it fills my heart and mind of the Lord doing a similar time I went through over 5 years ago. I had brain surgery that had to remove an inch & a half from the memory area of my brain. The Drs and nurses where all Jewish, and it took them 8 hours of incredible work. As I was out for that long and in & out of “sleep” for days, I could see the Lord Jesus physically with me. When I returned home 5 days later, for 2 weeks I saw and felt 2 very strong and loving Angels behind me, watching over me. Though a lot of my memory is gone, this time will never be forgotten! Thank You Jesus for your miracles. Praise Your Holy Name!

  4. This spirit-reviving testimony has convicted me to use my time wisely…Time is of the essence as the world has to see God moving in loving power and grace at such a time as this! Jesus gave me John 11:25-26 in my dream last week .I was martyred in that dream but didn’ t die. Pls pray that I will be faithful to Jesus ’til the end.

  5. My daughter Claire and I just read the story of Dr. Landry & the testimony of the people who responded to the article. Oh how beautiful it is to read this wonderful story of God’s love to my daughter who is only 4 years old. Both of us are greatly blessed this 12th day of August 2016

  6. I am encouraged and refreshed by this article. Heaven is real and if so hell is certainly real as well

  7. Thank GOD for Dr. G. Landry’s testimony and many other similar testimonies, may we be strengthened to continue the Walk of Faith in CHRIST JESUS because that is our fulfillment in life. GOD bless us all, Amen.
And thank you “Godreports”, every testimony is as new as today and very refreshing too! GOD bless your good works, Amen.

  8. Its a joy to know that it does not matter where we work. God is an awarder to them that work for him…pay day is coming soon

  9. As I was reading this, I was compelled to read the gospel of John more closely. My husband wants to read the bible and be accepted into the kingdom. Now I know where he can get the best information. Thank u.

  10. Heaven is real and so is hell. There is only one way to Heaven and that is Jesus. In John 14:6, Jesus said ‘I am the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh to the father except by me ‘ Whether people believe it or not, that is the truth. Behold now is the time of salvation. Jesus is coming soon, accept him now before it’s too late. For God is a consuming fire and will surely consume those who refuse to acknowledge Jesus as their personal Lord and Saviour while they were alive on this earth for there is no repentance in the grave. Hebrew 9:27.

  11. Very Faith strengthening, Thanks so much for sharing and posting this true Story of a Professional doctor, which would evidenced that thIs was written from a Person with sound mind and sincerety in to giving Witness to the truth of having Life after death and the veracity of what Is written in the Scripture that there Is God, indeed!!

  12. I had a near death experience in 1989 when I totalled my car with me in it. I was dead at the scene with physical injuries beyond human repair. Doctors told my family I would not survive the night most likely. IF I DID, I would surely be paralyzed from the neck down and no longer have a functional brain as I broke my skull in 3 places damaging my frontal lobe and breaking my back in a total of 5 places. I was in a coma for 2 and 1/2 days where I too met with Jesus. He showed me my life then and what, as well as who, I would be leaving behind. I didn’t want to leave so He blessed me, healed me and sent me back. 13 days after my accident, by the Grace of God, I WALKED out of that hospital

  13. I needed to read this today for a combination of reasons. Will read The book of John with a clearer understanding.

  14. My husband and I have such a passion for spreading the gospel as we believe the time is near for Jesus’ return. I am so encouraged and delighted to hear of the beautiful glimpses of Heaven and the love and compassion that is being shown by our Lord and Saviour every day. I also grieve for the people in the world, and my own family, that do not know and serve the Lord. Father please have mercy, lift the veil of blindness from their eyes and may they also have a personal encounter with YOU. Please draw the unbelievers to you and protect us from the evil one. My prayer is that everyone would experience Your personal touch and believe in your Hold name. Amen.

  15. I’ve always looked up to Jesus and his mother Mary. And I believe I was a Roman soldier in the time of Jesus and looked up to them then, as well. It’s a curious thing, because there are 2 statues of Mary holding baby Jesus, in front of the huge Catholic Church, across the street from where I live. I’m not even Catholic, yet I have the uncanny feeling that the statues are for my benefit.
